French sailboat manufacturer, Dufour Yachts, will be exhibiting the new Dufour 390 and 430 Grand Large at the Düsseldorf Boat Show 2019.

The 390 Grand Large, with third generation Umberto Felci hull design, has more pronounced bulwarks and a recessed hull. It comes with a 1.96m keel as standard which can be replaced with one of 1.75m.

There are three choices of interior layout. The exterior is decked in solid teak whilst the interior wood finish comes in moabi, oak or teak. Changes to the hull and chines have been included to create more spacious aft cabins.

Digital platform

Additions below deck include LED lighting and USB sockets, a new saloon table design and an intelligent navigation station. The 5in touch screen provides information such as GPS position and data including fuel and water levels, battery power, temperature.

Dufour has also introduced Dufour Connect, a digital platform which can run from a mobile device or laptop giving access to the control panel, latest boat data and documents.

430 Grand Large

The second boat to be released under the new third generation Umberto Felci Grand Large design, the 430GL has a softened and raised bilge strake and more pronounced chines said to improve performance and stability.

The coachroof enables a full width mainsheet traveller to be fitted and a full deck cover sits over the halyards.

Below decks the 430GL has two interior layouts and, like the 390GL, interior finishes are available in moabi, oak or teak. Navigation station and LED lighting are as per the 390GL and a 40 litre hot water tank is also included as standard.

INDUSTRY DATABASE

NAUTOR’S SWAN YACHT AGENCY

Finnish producer of luxury yachts, Nautor, will unveil the latest in its Swan series at the Düsseldorf Boat Show 2019.

Also on show will be an improved Swan 54 with new engine throttle, redesigned anchor locker and enhanced access to the engine with one single larger panel on the port cabin,

Cruising and racing versatility

The newest model, the Swan 65, is suitable for cruising with family and friends but equally capable of racing. Designed by Germán Frers, the mid-sized yacht enhances Nautor’s existing “performance bluewater” line of yachts, following the same design philosophy and parameters as her larger sister, the Swan 78.

The yacht can be managed with or without a professional skipper and also raced with a full competitive crew. Four are currently under construction with delivery scheduled in 2019.

Racing plans

Nautor’s Swan has plans for racing over the next few years. The Swan One design program has been reinforced and includes the new ClubSwan 36, ClubSwan 50, ClubSwan 42 and Swan 45 Classes.

Its sights are set on the bi-annual Nations Trophy Event, Palma de Mallorca in October 2019 and the annual Nations Trophy Leagues in the Mediterranean and northern Europe.

The Swan European Regatta 2019 has been confirmed and the event, organised by the Royal Yacht Squadron, will take place in Cowes on the Isle of Wight on 7-12 July.

Also returning after some years of absence is the Swan American Regatta, to be held in Newport on Rhode Island on 13-16 June.

Rutgesron’s new clutches are optimised for thinner lines

INDUSTRY DATABASE

RUTGERSON MARIN AB

Rutgerson is launching two of its most popular clutches in a new version optimised for thinner lines.

The RC75 and RC120 have the same high working load as the original clutches: 750 kg for the smaller model and 1200 kg for the larger.

“As modern lines are getting stronger, many boat owners are tempted to choose a thinner line dimension on their halyards,” said Charlotte Rutgerson, Rutgerson MD.

“This often results in slipping clutches, which can have a large impact on the boat’s performance, forcing many boat owners to switch to smaller clutches with a lower working load than desired.”

Integrated

The new clutches are fitted with the same integrated sheave as the standard version.

They also have the same mounting plate for easier installation when upgrading.

On the smaller model, RC75, the cam can be replaced for upgrading. This is available as a spare part.

The new RC75 is optimised for lines between 4-8 mm, compared to 8-12 mm on the standard version.

The new RC120 is adapted for 8-12 mm lines versus 10-16 mm on the standard clutch.

Both models are available as single, double and triple clutches.

The RC75 can also be ordered as quintuple.

Part of Gosport’s historic Royal Clarence Yard is being marketed for sale with potential use as a new marine industry employment hub.

The 5.7-acre site at the Osborne Road site has been released by the Defence Infrastructure Organisation.

The site has deep water access to Portsmouth Harbour

“The prestigious, historic nature of the site and access to the harbour make Royal Clarence Yard very attractive for marine use,” said Guy Jackson, associate director at agents Lambert Smith Hampton. “The sale will bring huge employment and economic benefits to Gosport while preserving its historic status and underlining the area’s rich marine heritage.”

Rare opportunity

He added: “This rare opportunity forms the next chapter in the story of Royal Clarence Yard which has, over the last ten years, transformed from its original use as a Royal Naval victualling yard into a successful mix of residential, light industry, office and leisure uses.”

The area for sale includes several listed structures including former tank stores, a steam fire engine house, the New South Store, part of the south range of the Cooperage and the southern boundary wall.

The site is in the Royal Clarence Yard Conservation Area.
