Cyclops Marine has launched a new wireless load sensor designed to help sailors find their groove, record their settings and most importantly repeat those settings.

smartlink delivers onboard, real-time dynamic load measuring, wirelessly feeding the data to a mobile application or the boat’s instruments via NMEA2000 Gateway and cable. The sensor was developed in partnership with INEOS TEAM UK.

“At INEOS TEAM UK, we consider Cyclops Marine our go-to experts when it comes to wireless load sensors,” said Andrew McLean, team leader systems engineering, INEOS TEAM UK. “Forging a close relationship with our suppliers is one of our core values, especially when that company manufactures in the UK.”

Find your winning settings

Manufactured in low density titanium, smartlink is lightweight and simple to add inline to any soft stay or sheet. Once fitted, the smartlink will help sailors find their winning settings and be able to repeat those proven settings for the wind conditions and the sea state.

“At any point in time, sailors can see what loads they are working with,” said Ian Howarth, chief executive at Cyclops Marine. “Teams are feeding back they are trimming their boats better, more consistently and sailing faster. Real time loading with visible numbers makes this easy.”

Available for loads of 2, 5 and 10 tonnes, smartlink has a battery life of 200 hours allowing for around 25 to 30 days of racing. smartlink is the second product in the smart range from Cyclops Marine, following the launch of its smart tune turn screw.

John Buckley has acquired heritage boat-fittings manufacturer Davey & Co

INDUSTRY DATABASE

DAVEY & CO LONDON LTD

Heritage boat-fittings manufacturer Davey & Company London, has been acquired by John Buckley, owner of Harbour Marine Services.

The acquisition seals a long-standing connection between the two companies – Harbour Marine specialises in classic boat restoration including several Little Dunkirk Ships on which Davey’s traditionally-manufactured bronze fittings have been used.

“I have great respect for Davey & Co’s British made ethos and high-quality product,” says John. “My intention is to protect that and create many more opportunities for Davey to be known as the ‘must-have’ quality fitting for traditional boat owners internationally.”

Davey and Co, established in 1885, is a leading British manufacturer of traditional boat fittings to boat-owners worldwide and still uses many of the patterns and designs that were used in Victorian times.

Traditional style

This results in authentic, high quality and covetable fittings that are perfect for classic boats and also bring a traditional style to more modern vessels.

Davey’s MD of 25 years, Peter Tracey, will be stepping down in the early autumn with Jeff Webber taking over the role. The business will continue to operate from its Colchester base whilst continuing to employ all existing staff.

Jeff has more than 20 years’ experience of the marine industry and has been brought in to deliver John’s vision for the business.

“This is a great opportunity and I look forward to taking up the reins from where Peter left off. Both John and I agree that British made philosophy of Davey & Co and quality products must be preserved.”
