Plans for a 300ft composite sailing superyacht, set to be the largest of its kind in the world, are underway in Palma, Mallorca.

The Carkeek C 300 will be built by Carkeek Design Partners and capable of average speeds of more than 30 knots, despite its size.

Shaun Carkeek, founder of Carkeek Design Partners, said: “No-one has ever built a composite boat this size – I’m looking forward to building it.

“It’s a massive challenge, it’s completely reshaping the industry. The boat has a new edge to it, not only through the size, but the design, the way the living spaces interact, the performance of the yacht, the new systems and technology and how these aspects work together. We’re trying to make a 300ft yacht feel, perform and handle like a 100ft yacht.”

The largest composite boat ever built is the Hetairos, which is just over 200ft and was launched in 2011.

Carkeek announced the four-year build following acceptance of the Concept Award at the International Yacht & Aviation Awards 2017.

The company has recently completed a project for a foiling monohull racing yacht and is developing lighter superyachts with semi-foiling modes. It is also designing a 115ft superlight sailing catamaran.
